Good Environmental Choice Australia
What Is GECA:
The Good Environmental Choice Label is the only environmental labelling program in Australia which indicates the environmental performance of a product from a whole of product life perspective
for consumer goods.
The label is awarded to products that meet voluntary
environmental performance standards which have been created and assessed in conformance to international environmental labelling standards.
The program is internationally recognized and growing in demand and awareness throughout different industries.
Note: of just one benefit to users of GECA Certified products:
Tradesmen who apply surface coatings and paints on a daily basis generally believe that if they are using water based coatings that there are no toxic components that can harm their health. Our experience indicates that this could not be further from the truth, and it is only stringent third party certification such as Good Environmental Choice that can clearly demonstrate the true environmental impact and user safety of a product.
Example section of GECA compliance for Architectural Paints.
Heavy Metals
Sb, Ba, Cd, Pb, Cr, Hg, and Arsenic or any toxic heavy metals and their compounds shall not be added during production.
For a product to be awarded GECA Certification it must comply.
International Recognition
GECA’s Ecolabel program is internationally recognized through GECA’s membership of the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN). GEN is a global not-for-profit association of national third-party, environmental performance labelling organizations. It was founded in 1994 to improve, promote and develop the ecolabelling of products and services. GEN members must meet certain requirements, which include conforming to the principles of ISO 14024. GECA is the only Australian ecolabel recognized by GEN.
